Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, representing Delta North, has debunked speculations about his role in the rescue of a kidnap victim in Idumuje Ugboko, stressing that his swift intervention was vital to the operation’s success.
In a statement on Saturday, Nwoko said the victim’s father and relatives contacted him directly, prompting him to mobilize security resources, engage local vigilantes, and liaise with police units in Asaba and Issele-Uku.
“I took whatever steps I considered necessary to ensure the matter was resolved safely,” the senator said, noting he monitored real-time tracking until the victim’s release and the kidnappers’ arrest.
He clarified that multiple groups, including human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, the military, police, and vigilantes, were simultaneously involved — a normal occurrence in urgent security operations.
“My only concern is saving lives and making our communities safer,” Nwoko emphasized, dismissing claims of conflicting narratives.
Community members have commended the rescue as a collective effort, while Nwoko pledged to continue prioritizing the security of his constituents in the face of Nigeria’s rising kidnapping menace.
