NUC Inspects Structures at Dr. Godwin Maduka’s Proposed Medical University in Anambra State

The National Universities Commission (NUC) recently conducted an inspection of the yet-to-be unveiled Transatlantic Medicine and Health Science University Umuchukwu in Anambra State.

Led by the Executive Secretary, Mr. Chris Maiyaki, the high-powered delegation expressed satisfaction with the quality of structures and facilities being built to house the medical university.

Dr. Godwin Maduka, a US-based medical doctor and philanthropist, is spearheading the project, which is set to become Nigeria’s tallest university upon completion.

The 17-storey building is already considered the tallest in the Southeast and South-South Regions.

The proposed university will offer a wide range of medical programs, including pharmacy, dental, nursing, radiology technology, and other allied health and research courses.

It aims to address the challenges posed by the ‘japa’ syndrome in the medical industry, which has led to a significant loss of medical professionals in Nigeria.

Mr. Maiyaki commended Dr. Maduka for his initiative and promised the support of the NUC in ensuring the successful establishment of the medical university.

The project is expected to contribute to human capital development and the provision of medical services in Nigeria.

Dr. Maduka has assured that the university will be fully operational by September 2024, with admissions for students and other academic activities commencing at that time.

This development highlights the ongoing efforts to improve Nigeria’s educational infrastructure and address the growing demand for quality education, particularly in the medical field.
