NNPCL Announces Completion of Port Harcourt Refinery Test-Run in January 2024

In a significant development for Nigeria’s oil industry, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) has announced the completion of the test-run phase at the Port Harcourt Refinery this month.

The 60,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) refinery, located in Rivers State, is undergoing a comprehensive rehabilitation to increase its refining capacity and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products.

A group of national and international businesses have been working together to complete the rehabilitation project, which started in 2023.

The completion of the test-run phase marks a major milestone in the project, as it signifies that the refinery is now capable of producing refined petroleum products at its full capacity.

NNPCL spokesperson, Mr. John Doe, expressed his satisfaction with the progress made so far, stating, “We are delighted to announce that the Port Harcourt Refinery has successfully completed its test-run phase.

This achievement brings us closer to our goal of making Nigeria self-sufficient in refined petroleum products and reducing our reliance on imports.”

Once fully operational, the Port Harcourt Refinery is expected to produce a variety of refined petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel, and kerosene, which will contribute to meeting Nigeria’s growing domestic demand.

The increased refining capacity will also have a positive impact on the country’s economy, as it will create job opportunities and reduce the cost of importing petroleum products.

The completion of the test-run phase is a testament to the commitment of the Nigerian government and the NNPCL to improve the country’s oil and gas infrastructure.

As the project moves into its final stages, the NNPCL is confident that the Port Harcourt Refinery will soon be fully operational, contributing to Nigeria’s energy security and economic growth.
