Senator Ali Ndume has strongly criticized the controversial cybersecurity levy recently introduced by the federal government, stating that it is unfair to impose additional taxes on citizens without increasing their income.
In a recent interview, Ndume argued that the government should prioritize increasing the income of Nigerians before levying them with extra taxes.
The senator representing Borno South Senatorial District in the Senate pointed out that while he supported the amendment to the Cybersecurity Act, he did not foresee the financial burden it would place on the citizens.
He expressed regret for not scrutinizing the provisions that would transfer the cost to Nigerian citizens.
Ndume's remarks come in the wake of widespread criticism from various quarters, including the Trade Union Congress (TUC), which has slammed the opposition lawmakers in the National Assembly for their perceived quietness on the controversial cybersecurity levy.
