NIM, NBS partner on capacity building

The Nigerian Institute of Management Chartered (NIM) has partnered the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in capacity building to fulfil its mandate of increasing Nigeria’s crop of professional managers.

Dr Christiana Atako, President, NIM, said this in a statement by the NIM Administrator, Mr Akin Iroko, on Friday in Lagos.

Atako said the partnership was brokered during a courtesy visit on the Statistician-General of the Federation, Mr Adeyemi Adeniran, in Abuja.

She said the move was part of the NIM bid to fulfill the mandate of training and certifying as many qualified persons as possible as professional managers.

Atako commended the Statistician-General for the giant strides he had taken to turn around the fortunes of the NBS since assumption of office.

She lauded the NBS sponsorship of 50 members of its staff to NIM Intensive Training for Membership Admission (ITMA) programme in 2022.

Atako, however, called for a more robust and enduring relationship between the two organisations.

She called for the participation of the NBS in the various programmes of the institute such as the Mandatory Continuing Education Programme, Continuous Learning and Development programme, among others.

These, she said, would afford the NIM the opportunity to contribute to the continued management excellence of the NBS for increased productivity and better service delivery.

“I commend the Statistician-General and his team for their immeasurable contributions to nation building.

“I wish to point out that this apex statistical agency for all the three tiers of government has been playing pivotal role in lubricating the wheel of governance throughout the federation.

“There is no doubt that your role is key to the nation’s developmental stride as you have continued to live up to your vision which is “to generate, on a continuous and sustainable basis, socio-economic statistics on all facets of development in Nigeria.

“We are specifically asking to be commissioned to organise promotion interviews for staff and induction programme for your newly recruited staff.

“This will not only make it possible for our two organisations to synergise in the area of human capital development; the corporate membership of your organisation will enable you to enjoy the value-added benefits accruable to members,” she said.

In his response, the Statistician-General lauded the NIM delegation for the visit and promised to partner more with the institute in the identified areas.

Adeniran specifically mentioned that the knowledge he gained from participating in the NIM ITMA programme was of immense help to him in his current capacity.
