Nigeria's naira weakened against the dollar on Thursday at the official forex market. Central Bank data showed the currency slipping to N1,370.89 from Wednesday's N1,370.56.

That's a loss of 33 kobo in a single day. The decline reversed Wednesday's gains when the naira had strengthened.

On the black market, things stayed steady. Dealers kept the rate at N1,395 per dollar, unchanged since Monday.

The mixed performance puzzled traders given recent developments. Nigeria's foreign reserves had climbed to $48.51 billion as of May 13.

Analysts are watching the gap between official and parallel market rates closely. Currency dealers say the spread suggests underlying demand pressures on the naira.

The Central Bank hasn't commented on the depreciation. Officials typically monitor daily movements to assess forex market stability.
