The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed a Host Country Agreement with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) to host the 32nd Afreximbank Annual Meetings (AAM) in Abuja from June 23 to 28, 2025.

The annual event is one of the most significant gatherings on the African continent, featuring high-level policy discussions, presentations, and networking sessions focused on trade, economic growth, and investment opportunities. The 2025 edition is expected to be the largest in the bank’s history, drawing over 6,000 delegates, including Heads of State, government officials, business leaders, and experts from Africa, the CARICOM region, and beyond.

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, described the event as a major opportunity to strengthen Africa’s financial sector and position Nigeria as a hub for economic transformation. "Nigeria is honoured to host the 2025 Afreximbank Annual Meetings, which will serve as a critical platform to drive discussions on trade financing, economic growth, and investment opportunities across Africa," he said.

Afreximbank President and Chairman of the Board, Professor Benedict Oramah, acknowledged Nigeria’s long-standing partnership with the bank, noting that the country has been a strong supporter of its initiatives. "The Government of Nigeria has been a steadfast partner and a strong backbone of the Bank," Oramah said. "This year’s theme, ‘Building the Future on Decades of Resilience,’ reflects the progress we have made over the past three decades and the bold steps needed to navigate the complex global landscape."

He added that Nigeria remains the largest beneficiary of Afreximbank’s trade and development finance, with cumulative disbursements of about $52 billion and several key projects, including the African Medical Centre of Excellence and the Afreximbank African Trade Centre.

The upcoming event follows the highly successful 2024 Afreximbank Annual Meetings in Nassau, The Bahamas, which attracted over 4,000 delegates, including more than 20 Heads of State and global dignitaries. Afreximbank, established in Abuja in 1993, counts Nigeria as its second-largest shareholder.
