Nigeria has breached its OPEC production limit for a second month running, with crude oil output reaching 1.56 million barrels per day in June. This exceeded the organisation's 1.5 million barrel quota by 4 percent and marks the country's strongest crude output in more than six years.
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission reported total daily production of 1.74 million barrels, which includes 1.56 million barrels of crude oil and 0.18 million barrels of condensate. The figures ranged from a low of 1.57 million barrels to a peak of 1.89 million barrels daily.
Nigeria has climbed steadily since February, when output stood at 1.483 million barrels per day. The trajectory continued through March at 1.546 million, April at 1.663 million, May at 1.700 million, and finally June at 1.735 million.
"Nigeria's crude oil and condensate production soared to an average of 1,735,398 barrels per day in June, representing positive growth for a fourth consecutive month," the commission said. In strict crude terms, the 1.56 million barrels daily represents the highest figure since April 2020, a 74-month high.
The NUPRC credited the boost to steady operations across most producing assets and the absence of significant pipeline disruptions during the month. "Enhanced operational stability supported improved production uptime and crude evacuation efficiency," the commission noted.
Though some assets experienced brief operational halts, the national impact remained minimal, according to the regulator. Scheduled maintenance work was also completed without major production interruptions.
"The sustained growth recorded in June reflects the continued commitment of operators and industry stakeholders towards improving operational efficiency, maintaining asset integrity, and enhancing production reliability," NUPRC stated.
Bonny Terminal led production with 318.28 thousand barrels per day, up from 293.88 thousand in May. Forcados Terminal followed with 306.36 thousand barrels daily, an increase from 289.90 thousand the previous month.
Qua Iboe Terminal produced 164.73 thousand barrels per day, declining from 173.36 thousand in May. Escravos Oil Terminal delivered 138.03 thousand barrels daily, up from 135.47 thousand barrels in the prior month.
Bonga rounded out the top five terminals with 103.66 thousand barrels per day, compared to 102.54 thousand barrels in May.
