Accused of Blaming Technical Committee for Super Eagles' World Cup Qualifier Failures

Technical Committee Member Accuses Federation of Politicizing Super Eagles' Coaching Decisions

An influential member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee has accused the federation of attempting to use the Committee as a scapegoat for the disappointing performances of the Super Eagles in their last two World Cup qualifiers.

The Committee member, speaking anonymously to Daily Trust, claimed that the NFF is being dishonest and diversionary, politicizing the appointment of the Super Eagles coach.

He stated that the Technical Committee recommended a foreign coach to be assisted by Finidi George, but the NFF rejected the list and insisted on an indigenous coach due to government directives.

The Committee member also said that there was pressure to recommend Emmanuel Amuneke, but they stuck to their guns and recommended Finidi because he was already in the system and the NFF claimed the government was opposed to foreign coaches.

He questioned why the NFF is now going for the same foreign coach they previously rejected and where they will get the money to pay for his services. He also asked when the Federal Government said no to foreign coaches for the Super Eagles.

The Committee member concluded that unnecessary political interference, not the Technical Committee, robbed Nigeria of six points in the World Cup qualifiers. He also warned that if the NFF allows too much interference by the Minister of Sports, it will soon incur the wrath of FIFA.
