The Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) has described the death of the Chairperson, Maritime Trade Group of NACCIMA, Princess Margaret Onyema-Orakwusi, as a huge loss to Nigeria’s business community.

The Managing Director of NEPZA, Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, said this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

The statement was signed by the authority’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr Martins Odeh.

Onyema-Orakwusi, an entrepreneur and maritime lawyer, died on Friday (April 28) during an illness.

Adesugba said the deceased was a prime figure in the country’s business space, adding that NEPZA benefitted from her wisdom.

According to Adesugba, NEPZA benefitted much from the deceased’s  approach in using the free zone scheme as a catalyst to economic development.

The managing director also said that the deceased significantly contributed to the country’s economic growth through her explorations in deep-sea shrimping and fish trawling, fish exportation, and seafood processing, as well as fish farming.

“Late Barrister Onyema-Orakwusi was the first female President and Council Member of the Nigerian Trawler Owners Association.

“She was able to organise the sector to respond to the demands of the market.

“I wish to, on behalf of myself and NEPZA, express our deepest sympathy on her death as we also pray for the repose of her beautiful soul.

“We wish to also empathise with the executives and members of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) at this moment of grief,’’ Adesugba said.
