Nigeria's drug enforcement agency has struck a major blow against opioid trafficking networks across multiple states. The NDLEA announced the interceptions on Sunday during an ongoing crackdown on drug cartels nationwide.

Femi Babafemi, the agency's Director of Media and Advocacy, disclosed the operations in a statement. He said the raids netted large quantities of dangerous substances hidden in various shipments.

In Taraba state, operatives intercepted a truck traveling from Onitsha to Jalingo. The vehicle appeared to carry building materials when stopped at Nukkai Timber Shade in Jalingo.

Hidden beneath the cargo lay a massive drug stash. A 22-year-old suspect, Buhari Abdullahi, was arrested at the scene.

Officials recovered 320,840 capsules of tramadol from the truck. Also seized were 600 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 4,500 rohypnol pills, and 299 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup.

Age proved no obstacle to law enforcement in Ebonyi state. NDLEA operatives tracked down and arrested Okebe Samuel, a 75-year-old grandpa, at Okposi.

Samuel had been selling drugs to young people in his community. Officers found 300 grams of skunk in his possession when they arrested him.

An operation in Imo state targeted a known drug enclave at Umulolo in Orlu. Operatives raided the location and arrested 32-year-old Chioma Okeke, described as a notorious dealer.

They recovered 8 kilograms of skunk during that bust. The seizure dealt another blow to trafficking networks in the region.

Edo state saw intense enforcement activity across Benin City on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026. Officers swept through notorious drug hotspots and made four critical arrests.

At Uyosa, two female suspects fell into police hands. Twenty-four-year-old Chioma Igba and 22-year-old Precious Ozomah were caught with 176 grams of skunk, 65 grams of Loud, and 5 grams of methamphetamine.

Along Agbor Road, another female suspect was apprehended. Twenty-one-year-old Anita Abraham carried 95 grams of Scottish Loud and 329 grams of regular Loud.

At Upper Mission, officers arrested Henry Okey, a 43-year-old male trafficker. Police recovered a diverse mix of psychotropic substances from him including Loud, Colorado, Swinol, and methamphetamine.

Kano state operatives scored a major seizure on Thursday, June 4th, 2026. Officers arrested 19-year-old Saifullahi Lawan at Kafi area in Madobi with 40 blocks of skunk.

That haul weighed a total of 38 kilograms. It represented one of the largest single seizures in recent operations.

In Gombe state, operatives made another significant arrest on Monday, June 1st. They intercepted 28-year-old Ugwu Sabastine Ifebuchi near Dantiti Plaza in Tumfure area.

Ifebuchi was carrying 15,000 capsules of tramadol when caught. Officers recovered the entire shipment during the operation.

Babafemi noted that these successes have energized the NDLEA's commitment to fighting drug abuse. He said the agency continues its War Against Drug Abuse social advocacy activities across the country.

Recent weeks saw sensitization lectures delivered at multiple schools nationwide. The NDLEA targeted institutions in Oyo, Lagos, and Anambra states with its educational campaigns.
