Drug agents at Lagos airport have arrested a 63-year-old Chinese woman smuggling cannabis into Nigeria. Ting Hung Kiong was intercepted on Sunday, May 17, 2026, as she arrived from Thailand.

She touched down at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on an Emirates flight via Dubai. NDLEA operatives stationed at Terminal 2 stopped her upon arrival.

Officials discovered two large travel boxes in her possession. The boxes contained 31 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a synthetic cannabis strain.

Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA spokesman, confirmed the seizure in a statement. He noted the suspect had travelled from Malaysia before heading to Thailand, then Nigeria.

During questioning, Kiong claimed she works as a caregiver in Malaysia. She said her daughter arranged the entire trip, paying all expenses.

According to her account, she spent two weeks in Thailand. Someone handed her the drug package at the airport before she boarded her flight to Lagos.

Investigators say she was instructed to deliver the consignment upon arrival in Nigeria. The case adds to growing concerns about drug trafficking through major Nigerian airports.

NDLEA has intensified screening at the airport in recent months. Multiple seizures have been recorded over the past year involving both local and foreign suspects.
