Two elderly men are now facing prosecution after NDLEA operatives arrested them for allegedly selling illicit drugs to secondary school students in Umuahia. Godfrey Orji, 84, and Godwin Obulunbiya Obiora, 75, were detained as part of a sweeping national crackdown on traffickers.

Obiora was picked up on June 19. Intelligence reports had linked him to illicit substance sales from his patent medicine store on Club Road.

Officers raided his shop and recovered 4.64 kilograms of opioids. The seizure included both tramadol and diazepam tablets.

Orji's arrest came days earlier. School security at Saint Silas Secondary School, Old Umuahia, caught him supplying drugs to two students.

Police took over the case and handed it to NDLEA on June 18. During questioning, a 15-year-old SSS2 student admitted Orji supplied him regularly.

The teenager told investigators he used some drugs himself and sold the rest to classmates. Both elderly suspects will face court prosecution.

The affected students have been enrolled in counselling and rehabilitation programmes. NDLEA's media director Femi Babafemi announced the arrests at a press briefing.

In Lagos, the agency recorded multiple major seizures. Operatives intercepted a 9.5-kilogram consignment of ADB-Chminaca, a dangerous synthetic cannabinoid, hidden in a carton from China.

Another operation on June 16 netted 300 grams of Loud cannabis. Officers discovered it packed inside ladies' handbags at a logistics facility.

Wanted Lagos drug dealer Lukman Badmus, known as Lukman Ogombo, became the target of a residential raid in Ajah. His Ogombo residence yielded nine bottles of codeine syrup and 30 grams of skunk.

A follow-up search at his wife's shop on Lagos Island proved even more productive. Officers recovered two more codeine bottles, 42 compressed skunk blocks, and various drug paraphernalia.

Total weight of skunk recovered from both locations reached 22.5 kilograms. The seizures underscored the spread of drug trafficking across the state.

Kogi State also saw significant NDLEA action. On the Okene-Lokoja Highway, officers stopped Tochukwu Onah, 33, traveling from Lagos to Abuja.

Hidden inside custard containers were 1.03 kilograms of methamphetamine. The suspect is now in custody.

Two suspects long wanted for a March Ekiti seizure were finally arrested. That operation had recovered 117 kilograms of skunk.

Oyo Town experienced a major raid that netted impressive results. NDLEA arrested three suspects, including a 75-year-old man.

Officers recovered 118 jumbo bags of skunk from the location. The contraband, totalling 1,416 kilograms, had been concealed under sawdust.

Beyond enforcement operations, NDLEA continues extensive awareness work. The agency runs sensitization campaigns across schools, religious centres, and communities nationwide.

These efforts form part of the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative. Officials say the strategy targets substance abuse prevention at grassroots level.

NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen.

Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) praised officers for their work. He urged them to maintain momentum in the ongoing drug control campaign.
