Alexander Ombugu, a factional chairman of the Labour Party in Nasarawa State, has raised the alarm over threats to his life. He made the plea while speaking to journalists in Lafia on Saturday.

Ombugu called on security agencies to step in immediately. He wants them to provide protection and launch a full investigation.

According to him, the threats may stem from his stance on disputes that erupted during the party's recent primary elections. He wouldn't name those he suspects are behind the alleged threats.

He explained that revealing such details to journalists could jeopardize any investigation. Security agencies, he said, were the proper channel for that information.

"The whole issue is because I am standing by the truth, and some people within and outside the party are not happy about it," Ombugu told reporters. His wife recently returned home in tears after hearing rumours of an impending attack.

The factional chairman noted that he's done nothing wrong in his political career. He said he's always respected Labour Party rules and Nigerian laws.

"I am appealing to the security agencies for adequate security coverage, and that a proper investigation into this matter should be carried out so that my life can be protected," he added. His wife's distress underscored how seriously the threats have affected his family.

Ombugu hasn't provided details about the specific nature of the threats. He stressed that authorities alone should handle the investigation to prevent compromising it.
