NAFDAC Shuts Down Unregistered Sachet Water Factories in Anambra

The National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken decisive action to shut down several unregistered sachet water production factories in Anambra.

These companies were found to be operating in unhealthy environments and not adhering to regulatory standards for good manufacturing practices.

According to Louis Mmadubuatta, the NAFDAC Coordinator in Anambra, the agency is carrying out routine surveillance to protect the health of the public.

He emphasized that companies that do not comply with the required standards are being closed until they comply, and those that have been previously shut down have since made the necessary changes to reopen.

The specific locations of the sealed companies were not disclosed for strategic reasons. However, Mmadubuatta warned companies engaging in illegal manufacturing of table water and other regulated products to cease their activities and register their products with NAFDAC.

He also urged companies with expired licenses to renew them.

NAFDAC is continuing its efforts to impose sanctions on erring companies and encourages members of the public to report any illegal table water production activities in their neighborhoods for swift action.

The agency assures those providing information of their anonymity.

Mmadubuatta advised consumers to be vigilant in checking the product name, production and expiry dates, NAFDAC number, and batch number. In case of any doubts, consumers are encouraged to reach out to the agency for clarification.
