The Wife of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State,  Ibijoke, has partnered the police command in the state against domestic, gender-based and sexual  violence.

Mrs Sanwo-Olu made the disclosure  on Thursday when the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Idowu Owohunwa, led a  special committee of the command to her office at Alausa, Ikeja.

The Special Committee on Gender Based Violence is seeking establishment of a special centre against domestic, gender-based and sexual violence.

The governor’s wife expressed satisfaction that the command was tackling  gender-based issues in a larger scale.

She assured the committee of her support for the project.

The committee, through the commissioner of police had solicited  her support for the special centre against domestic and gender-based violence.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Owohunwa had, on May 6, inaugurated the special committee to establish a centre for domestic, gender-based and sexual violence.

Owohunwa said the committee included  different non-governmental organisations that focused on tackling such violence  in Lagos State.

According  to him,  the command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, and officers in charge of the command’s Gender Unit are members of the committee, among others.

The police boss said the committee was set up with a view to having a befitting centre under the command, where domestic, gender-based and sexual violence  would get deserved attention and investigations.
