Soldiers from 3 Battalion (Mechanised)/24 Task Force Brigade successfully repelled a coordinated terror attack in Borno State on Wednesday. Gunmen linked to ISWAP and JAS launched the assault on a military base in Ngala Local Government Area.
According to Zagazola Makama, a security analyst tracking the Lake Chad region, insurgents struck from three different directions. They attacked from Wurge, Manawaji and Kinuba axes simultaneously.
Troops responded with heavy gunfire backed by reinforcements from battalion command. Artillery and mortar units also provided critical support during the firefight.
The combined firepower forced attackers to abandon their positions and flee. Military personnel pursued the retreating fighters toward Wurge at around 5:45 a.m.
During the chase, soldiers recovered three unexploded RPG-7 warheads and two flashlights. Insurgents had dropped these items while escaping the area.
One soldier suffered injuries from RPG shrapnel during the engagement. Medical teams transported him to the battalion's aid post for immediate care.
A main battle tank also suffered mechanical problems following the operation. Technicians are working to restore the vehicle to full capacity.
Military commanders say clearance operations continue in the zone. Officials told reporters they're committed to preventing terrorist regrouping across the North-East.
