Soldiers under Operation Enduring Peace have killed a suspected bandit during fighting in Jos South. The clash occurred on June 26 around 7:00 a.m. following reports of armed rustlers near Gero high grounds.

Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama disclosed the operation details on X. He explained that troops discovered a herd of cattle grazing on farmland during the clearance mission.

Gunfire erupted moments after the interception. According to Makama, suspected militia members opened sporadic fire on the soldiers.

The troops held their ground and called for backup. Reinforcements from Sector 3 at Rafin Bauna and Sector 6 arrived swiftly to join the fight.

One suspected bandit was killed in the exchange. Others managed to escape the scene.

Soldiers recovered two mobile phones and N14,000 at the location. Makama said the fleeing suspects had abandoned both items.

Military personnel secured the intercepted cattle immediately. They moved the animals to a safe location for custody and investigation.

Security forces have intensified patrols across Jos South. Makama noted they're determined to prevent future attacks and restrict criminal activities in Plateau State.
