Soldiers under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have killed two bandits in separate raids across the North-West. They also rescued kidnapped people and recovered weapons and stolen cattle.
On June 21, troops in Sokoto State moved quickly against terrorists attempting to enter Tureta town. Intelligence had tipped them off about the planned attack.
Soldiers engaged the attackers and forced them to abandon their mission and scatter. The bandits fled the area in disarray.
Military assets then tracked the fleeing suspects to Sulubawa Gidan Kare village in the same state. Abducted civilians and rustled livestock were spotted with them.
Troops launched a pursuit operation immediately after receiving the intelligence report. The terrorists staged an ambush to stop the advancing soldiers.
After intense fighting, soldiers overpowered the attackers and made them retreat further. Kidnapped victims were freed during the operation.
Two motorcycles believed to belong to the bandits were seized alongside the rescued cattle. Authorities said the operation dealt a significant blow to criminal networks.
In a second raid on June 22, soldiers hit a suspected hideout in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State. The early morning strike caught the terrorists by surprise.
A fierce gunfight erupted when soldiers stormed the location. Two bandits were killed in the firefight.
Several others managed to escape but sustained gunshot wounds during their retreat. Soldiers combed the hideout after the fighting stopped.
They recovered one PKT assault rifle and an AK-47 rifle with ammunition. Three motorcycles, communication equipment, rustled livestock and other materials were also found.
Military authorities said these successes show their determination to crush terrorist groups across the region. They promised to intensify operations until all bandit hideouts are destroyed.
Residents should expect continued military action in coming weeks, officials noted. Peace will be restored to the North-West, they assured.
