Mercy Yohanna claimed top honours at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Golf Club's ladies competition over the weekend. She fired a net score of 65 to win the 2nd Quarter Medal Kitty.
The tournament drew 121 female golfers to the course on NAF Base Bill Clinton Drive in Abuja. Yohanna's performance stood out among the competitive field.
Playing off a handicap of 26, Yohanna recorded a gross 91 and that impressive net 65. Susan Marcus finished second with a net 72.
PC Ajayi claimed third place after carding a net 73. It was a strong showing from the trio.
In the men's division, results varied across handicap brackets. MA Mamman topped the 15-28 handicap category with a net 67.
Makrop Datu came second in that group on net 70. For golfers between zero and 14 handicap, Tunji Adeleye won with net 68.
E. Okundaye took runner-up on countback after returning net 70.
SM Bello captured the best gross prize with 80.
Veterans saw John Mrabure emerge victorious with net 71. Musa Shaibu finished behind him on net 73.
Among guests, Fred Oghoyone claimed the men's title on countback at net 68. Victor Garba also tied that score but settled for second.
Patience Abba won best net among lady guests with 73. The secondary competitions kept spectators entertained throughout.
Ekpo IE captured longest drive for men at 215 metres. Dorcas Malle won the ladies' longest drive with 195 metres.
Nankyer N took home the best dressed award. The auxiliary prizes added colour to the championship day.
Yohanna told Golf Digest she felt thrilled about her victory. "I feel great and excited to be crowned the Ladies' Champion once again," she noted.
She stressed the importance of course familiarity in her preparation. "It's all about practice for me.
Whenever I have a tournament coming up, I make sure I familiarize myself with the course beforehand," the golfer explained.
Yohanna's cabinet already holds more than 20 trophies from her playing career. She's hungry for additional silverware moving forward.
"I have won more than 20 trophies so far, and I am determined to come back even stronger and better," she told the publication. "Fans should expect more victories from me," Yohanna added with confidence.
