Toyin Adewale, mother of singer Mayorkun, thought a scammer was messaging her son. She made the revelation on Talk to B podcast on Saturday.

It was actually Davido trying to reach out via direct message on social media. The contact came after Mayorkun's cover song had gone viral online.

Mayorkun was with his brother when the message arrived, she recalled. The family initially dismissed it as a fraudulent attempt to con the young musician.

Davido then called Mayorkun directly to confirm his identity. According to Adewale, her son became extremely excited during the conversation.

The music producer asked Mayorkun to send his measurements because he was traveling. When Davido returned, Mayorkun and his brother visited him at his place.

Davido handed them a box filled with gifts and cash. Adewale admitted she felt nervous at that time because she wasn't familiar with who Davido was.

Her son returned the next day for another meeting. That's when they recorded "Eleko," the hit song that launched Mayorkun's career.

Music came naturally to him, she noted. Mayorkun had sung in a church choir and loved writing poetry since childhood.

Following the recording session, Mayorkun moved into Davido's residence. Later, Adewale visited them to check on her son's living situation.

She found Davido to be pleasant and respectful in person. The encounter eased her worries about her son's new working arrangement.
