Matrix Energy Group (MEG), a leading indigenous oil and gas company, has categorically denied recent reports accusing it of importing substandard petroleum products. The company described the allegations as "false, wicked, and misleading."
In an official statement, Matrix Energy Group dismissed the claims, emphasizing that since its inception in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, it has maintained a spotless record of importing only high-quality petroleum products.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to adhering strictly to the regulatory standards set by the Federal Government. Matrix Energy further highlighted that all its imported products meet the specifications approved by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
“Since we began operations, none of our millions of customers has reported purchasing substandard fuel from any of our outlets across the country," the statement read. "Our products are consistently approved, and the demand for Matrix fuel often exceeds our supply due to our reputation for reliability."
Matrix Energy emphasized that it has built a reputation for integrity over the past 20 years, serving as a trusted partner in the Nigerian oil industry. With significant investments in vessels, oil terminals, trucks, and retail outlets across 28 states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Matrix Energy has become a key player in the sector.
In addressing the allegations, the company stated: "Our attention was drawn to a recent online publication attempting to tarnish our name with baseless claims. While we initially considered ignoring the lies, it became imperative to set the record straight. We have never imported or distributed substandard products, and our operations have always complied with the highest standards set by regulators."

Matrix Energy also refuted claims that it had discharged 200,000 metric tons of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at its facility in July 2024. The company clarified that while it can handle such volumes, it has never compromised on product quality.
The statement further addressed the company’s involvement in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited's (NNPCL) crude oil tender. “Matrix Energy lawfully participated in and won NNPCL tenders, operating within the bounds of the law," the company stated. "We welcome constructive criticism but remain committed to international best practices."
Matrix Energy’s Chief Executive Officer, Abdulkabir Adisa Aliu, who was recently appointed to the Economic Coordination Council by President Bola Tinubu, was also defended in the statement. “Our CEO is a dedicated and talented leader, deeply committed to the betterment of Nigeria. His appointment is a testament to his integrity and dedication to national development.”
The company reiterated its commitment to ensuring the availability of high-quality petroleum products at competitive prices, aligning with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda for economic development.
