Iran's military said on Friday it unleashed drone strikes against American military installations in Bahrain and Jordan as payback for recent US attacks on Iranian territory.
The army claimed its Arash kamikaze drones hit fuel tanks, equipment warehouses and barracks at Isa Air Base in Bahrain, according to a statement broadcast on state television.
An AFP journalist in Bahrain reported hearing explosions and air raid sirens early Friday morning, though officials didn't immediately confirm any link between the two incidents.
Iran's military also said it targeted Al-Azraq base in Jordan with drone attacks on aircraft hangars, aviation maintenance facilities and soldier barracks. Jordan has made no public statements about strikes in recent hours.
Tehran's military leadership maintains that any American base or facility in the Middle East used for operations against Iran becomes a valid target for retaliation.
The strikes mark an escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran, which have simmered for months.
The announcement came as diplomatic efforts in the region continued, with various parties engaged in ongoing negotiations over security arrangements and military posturing in the volatile Gulf region.
