A magistrate court in Rano, Kano State, has ordered a man remanded in custody over murder allegations.
Jabir Mu'azu Gwarzo faces charges of culpable homicide in connection with his wife's death. Prosecutors allege he killed Maryam Isa for ritual purposes in Gwarzo village.
Barrister Abdulkarim Kabir Maude, the state's Commissioner for Justice, re-arraigned the defendant on Wednesday. The charge violates Section 221 of the Penal Code.
According to prosecutors, Gwarzo allegedly murdered his wife and mutilated her body. Three witnesses took the stand to support the state's case against him.
Abubakar Alkasim, Shehu Hasan and Yau Kabir all testified during proceedings. Their evidence linked the defendant to the alleged crime in the village.
Justice Halima Nasir, who presided, approved the remand order. She sent Gwarzo to a correctional facility pending trial continuation.
The case resumes on June 19 for further hearings. No bail was granted to the accused.
