A 32-year-old man, Afeez Adeleke, was on Wednesday, arraigned in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for alleged stealing, burglary and damage.
The Police charged the defendant, whose address was not provided, with a three-count charge.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp. E. O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 6, at about 3:00 a.m. at No 24 Adenuga Street, Ijako Church, Ota.
Adaraloye told the court that the defendant broke into the house of the complainant, Adeogun Olamide, to steal Iphone XX Max and other valuable items, valued at N320,000.
He added that the defendant also damaged the window burglary proof of one Favour Osareme, valued at N20,000.
The prosecutor said that the defendant was caught by the vigilance group and handed over to the police for further investigation.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 390(4), 411(2) and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Adeyemi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
Adeyemi said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
She adjourned the case until July 13 for further hearing.
