The Legal Practitioners' Privileges Committee has given the green light for 68 lawyers to join the ranks of Senior Advocates of Nigeria. The decision came during the committee's 174th plenary meeting on Thursday in Abuja, with Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, presiding over the session.
Kabir Akanbi, who serves as both Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, revealed that these newly appointed Senior Advocates will take their oath at a ceremony set for Monday, October 12, 2026. The SAN designation recognises lawyers who've demonstrated excellence through either courtroom work or significant contributions to legal scholarship and research.
Among the 68 promotees are 67 practising lawyers and one academic figure, Professor Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri. The list includes Ibrahim Gamdeh Adamu, Jude Chukwuemeka Okafor, Godwill Achibong Umoh, Sunday Samuel Obende, Adebayo Olugbenga Adaralegbe, Jimson Ejovi Okodaso, Olalekan Lawrence Bade-John and Olaotan Thomas Olusegun.
Other newly elevated Senior Advocates are Philemeon Audu Daffi, Adenrele David Adegborioye, James Eromosele Agbonhese, Alexander Nduka Muoka, Emmanuel Akunke Akomaye, Ikhide Ehighelua, Mas'ud Mobolaji Alabelewe and Ogunmuyiwa Olayinka Balogun. The group also includes Anthony Auditz Iroagalachi, Mohammed Tajudeen Mohammed, Odion Peter Odia, Gbemiga Adaramola, Moses Okoh Onyilokwu, Charles Azubuike Obodozie, Hakeem Obafemi Agaba, Bimbo Felix Atilola, Okechukwu Steve Emelieze, Joshua Demilade Olaniyan and Igonikon Abiola Adekunle.
Christian Nnadozie Nwokorie, Sadiku Momoh Ilegieuno, Sarafa Kolawole Idowu, Olujoke Enitan Aliu, Oliver Onyenucheya Amuzie, Adebisi Emmanuel Adeniyi, Faruk Abdullah, Sagir Gezawa Suleiman, Ifeanyi Godwin Ezeuko, Adebayo Folorunsho Ologe and Sabiu Gumba Adamu made the list. Still more appointees include Eric Keme-Egolukumor Omare, Soibi Ideriah Ovia, Somina Peter Johnbull, Chinedum Ikenna Umeche, Emmanuel Eghiegba Ekhasemomhe, Mohammed El-Hassan Sheriff, Junaidu Bello Marshall, Olawale Sunday Fapohunda, Adebiyi Alaba Adetosoye, Sulyman Ibrahim and Agba Eimunjeze.
Ayobamidele Oyekunle Akande, Adetunji Taiwo Adedoyin Adeniyi, Olamide Mojigbotoluwa Adekunle, Umaru Yunusa, Akorede Habeeb Lawal, Darlington Nnabuike Ozurumba, Nnaemeka Francis Patrick Egonu, Kayode Orire Omosehin, Mitchel Akinrinsola Aribisala, Bolu Agbaje Akadri, Oluwaseun Asimiyu Alao, Olugbenga Olusanya Ajala, Mustapha Olayinka Ajenifuja, Afees Hassan Adebayo, Mohammed Abiodun Adelodun, Jonathan Akintola Makinde and Olajide Salami also secured their elevation.
Before the formal conferment, all successful candidates must participate in a compulsory Pre-Swearing-In Induction Programme. The LPPC said it will announce the programme's date later.
The committee has warned the appointees against issuing or promoting congratulatory messages, advertisements or goodwill notices tied to their selection or rank conferment. The LPPC warned that breaching this rule could trigger sanctions under the Legal Practitioners' Privileges Guidelines and the Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners, 2023.
