lCourt remands labourer for theft of 2 cooking gas cylinders

A Dei-Dei Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday, remanded a 20-year-old labourer, Kamal Abdul, in the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Suleja over the alleged theft of two cooking gas cylinders.

The judge, Saminu Suleiman, ordered that the defendant’s remand until July 18, fixed for hearing of the case, after the latter pleaded not guilty  to the offence.

The defendant, who resides at FO1 Kubwa, Abuja, is facing charges of criminal trespass and theft

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada told the court that the complainant, Edem Inyang, of Kubwa Abuja, reported the matter at the Dutse Alhaji Police Station on June 6.

Ogada said that the complainant alleged that on June 4 at 11:00 p.m., the defendant criminally trespassed into the complainant’s compound by jumping over the fence without his consent.

The counsel told the court that the defendant made away with two 12.5 kg cooking gas cylinders containing gas valued at N 140,000.

Ogada said that during a police investigation the two cooking gas cylinders were recovered from the defendant’s possession.

He said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 348 and 288 of Penal Code.
