Koko, the traditional headquarters of Warri North Local Government, erupted in celebration on Saturday, September 6, 2025, following the appointment of Dr. Orishegbubemi Maurice Ojo-Ede as Executive Assistant (Political) to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

The reception for Ojo-Ede quickly transformed into a political rally, with community members declaring their unwavering support for the governor and pledging to back his reelection campaign in 2027.

The celebration began at the Koko Community Management Authority Hall, before moving to the Nana Palace field where a large crowd, waving banners and chanting solidarity songs, welcomed the newly appointed assistant. Many residents see the appointment as a significant victory for both Koko and Warri North.

Community leaders and residents praised the governor's decision, calling it a strategic move that would bring development to the grassroots. “This appointment is not just for Maurice, it is for all of us,” said Comrade Engineer Toju Itsesagba, who added, “Politics is local, and you can see how our people have embraced this choice. With this, 2027 is already secured.”

Dr. Ojo-Ede, visibly moved by the outpouring of support, said the appointment signifies a sense of belonging for the Koko community. He credited his work through the OMO Foundation, which has provided scholarships, boreholes, and relief materials, as the reason the governor chose to "bring us closer." He pledged the community's support for the governor's MORE Agenda and urged residents to register for their INEC cards to vote in 2027.

The OMO Foundation’s community work was a recurring theme during the event. “He has been touching lives before this office,” said Mrs. Adanu Oritse. “Now he has the governor’s backing. That means more development for Warri North.”

In a symbolic gesture of appreciation, Ojo-Ede distributed two-way radios to security agencies, fishing gear to local fishermen, and protective gear to commercial riders. The day concluded with cultural displays and an award of recognition from Rero TV. The message from the community was clear: Koko has embraced Ojo-Ede as their representative, and in turn, has pledged their support for Governor Oborevwori's political future.
