Kogi State Takes Bold Step in Healthcare: 32,000 Civil Servants to Benefit from Free Formal Sector Plan

Kogi State Governor, Alh. Usman Ahmed Ododo, has officially launched the digital capture and enrollment of 32,000 beneficiaries from the state’s Formal Sector Plan for Civil Servants.

The program aims to provide free and quality healthcare services to the state’s civil servants and their dependents.

At the event, which took place in Lokoja, Governor Ododo also flagged off the Access to Care for 41,587 beneficiaries and launched the 10-year strategic plan of the Kogi State Health Insurance Agency from 2024 to 2033.

The Governor expressed his satisfaction with the operations of the health insurance agency and emphasized that his administration is committed to providing good governance to the people of the state.

“We have no reason not to deliver good governance to the people of Kogi State because we have all the necessary support that we need from the Federal Government, and we will not disappoint our people,” Governor Ododo said.

The Governor also announced a deliberate plan to revamp the 868 unproductive primary healthcare centres, starting with the renovation and equipping of 63 primary healthcare centres in each of the 21 local government areas.

Dr. Adekunle Aledare, Executive Secretary of the Kogi State Health Insurance Agency, expressed his belief that the plan for civil servants would provide a strong foundation for the state to rapidly scale up in the Informal Sector population coverage.

He emphasized that formalizing the Informal Sector is a key strategy that can fast-track Informal Sector participation.

“History will be kind to us that we are gathered here to provide hope to the Civil Servants and their dependents through the Formal Sector Plan, which has the propensity to reduce the financial burden associated with paying out-of-pocket for health, particularly in the face of rising medical inflation,” Aledare said.

The bold step taken by the Kogi State government to provide free healthcare to its civil servants through the Formal Sector Plan has made it the third state in the North-Central states to commence the Formal Sector Plan for their employees.

This initiative aims to ensure that no one is left behind in the pursuit of Universal Health Coverage in the state.

As the Kogi State Health Insurance Agency takes on the moral burden of accelerating the attainment of Universal Health Coverage, it is clear that the state is making significant strides in providing quality healthcare to its citizens.
