Police in Katsina State have arrested a suspected drug dealer and seized over 2,000 tablets of Diazepam during a raid in Funtua.

Officers from the Central Police Station stopped Jibrin Salisu, 27, on his motorcycle on June 15, 2026. They discovered two sachets packed with the suspected pharmaceutical drugs during a search.

Salisu is accused of trafficking in banned substances across the region. During questioning, he admitted receiving the drugs from someone else.

He identified his supplier as Faith Eze, a 26-year-old woman. According to him, Eze gave him the tablets for onward delivery to a man known only as "Gurgu."

Police spokesman DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu disclosed the details on Saturday. He said operatives were conducting routine patrols when they intercepted Salisu.

Following the suspect's confession, detectives tracked down Eze and arrested her as well. She too confessed to involvement in the drug trafficking scheme.

"Gurgu," the alleged final recipient, remains at large and is the subject of an ongoing manhunt. Police say they're working to dismantle the entire distribution network behind the operation.

Ali Umar Fage, the Commissioner of Police, condemned the drug trade in strong terms. He warned traffickers they'd face severe legal consequences if they continued their activities.

Fage reiterated that his command maintains a strict no-tolerance policy on narcotics. Anyone caught dealing in illicit drugs will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, he added.

The seizure marks another success in the state's ongoing battle against drug trafficking. Police say they'll intensify operations against organized crime networks.
