Kaduna — The Independent Hajj Reporters (IHR) has praised the Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency for its transparency and decision to refund $50 to pilgrims who had paid for Hadaya, due to a reduction in price.
The agency engaged a company to handle the slaughtering of animals on behalf of the pilgrims, and the refund is a result of the reduced cost.
Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Rabiu Dabo, a board member of the agency who chaired the Hadaya Committee, announced the refund.
The pilgrims will have the option to receive their refund either in Saudi Arabia or Nigeria, depending on their preference.
IHR praised the agency's transparency, especially considering the secrecy surrounding Hadaya payments and execution in some states.
The organization emphasized that pilgrims have the right to know how much is spent on their behalf, whether it is less or more than what they are charged. Such transparency fosters trust and confidence among the public and prospective pilgrims.
While some states charge higher Hadaya fees, IHR noted that there has been no public announcement regarding refunds or the amount involved.
The organization specifically highlighted the 700 pilgrims who initially paid for Hadaya before their trip to Saudi Arabia and are now eligible for a refund due to foreign exchange rate differences.
IHR urged all officials to follow the example set by the Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency and refund pilgrims if there is a downward price review.
The organization believes that such actions will earn officials rewards beyond their imagination.
