Kaduna State's pilgrims agency has begun checking baggage ahead of the hajj journey. Officials want to ensure all luggage meets weight limits and contains no forbidden items.

The screening started Thursday night, according to Professor Muhammadu Mustapha Gwadabe. He chairs the Luggage Screening and Weighing Sub-Committee.

Governor Uba Sani's spokesman, Malam Ibraheem Musa, released a statement on Sunday. Prof Gwadabe praised Kaduna pilgrims for obeying airline rules.

Scales have been placed on every floor of the building. Pilgrims can weigh their bags before the official screening process begins.

Baggage from passengers on the first flight has already been cleared. Their two 23-kilogram bags are now being moved from the pilgrims' residence.

Each pilgrim gets two bags of 23 kilograms each maximum. Hand luggage cannot weigh more than eight kilograms.

Sharp objects and liquids are completely banned from checked baggage. Large quantities of perfume are also prohibited on the aircraft.

Prof Gwadabe announced that return flights will now start on June 16. The original date was June 15.

He urged pilgrims to remain calm during the extra day. According to him, they should use the time to pray for themselves and their loved ones.

Prayers should also cover Kaduna State and Nigeria, he added. The Sub-Committee Chairman believes this will benefit the nation.
