Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna has won clearance from the All Progressives Congress to run in Gombe State's gubernatorial primary election. The party's screening committee approved him on Saturday in Abuja.
He was picked as the consensus candidate. But two other aspirants rejected this arrangement outright.
Senator Saidu Ahmed Alkali and Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami both opposed the consensus approach.
They want to contest the primary independently.
A committee chaired by Dr Benjamin Obi Nwoye conducted the screening exercise. According to Gwamna's spokesman Ibrahim Sani Shawai, the process followed party constitution rules strictly.
Gwamna met all constitutional and procedural requirements, the committee determined. He's now certified fit to participate in the primary race.
Shawai said his principal appreciated the APC leadership's transparency throughout. The exercise was rigorous and credible, he noted.
"I am honoured to have successfully gone through this important constitutional process of our great party," Gwamna said in a statement. He added that the screening strengthens faith in APC's democratic structures.
Gwamna pledged to build on Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya's achievements if elected. He praised both the state governor and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, their administrations have delivered visible progress across the state. Such accomplishments will energise party supporters during the campaign, he argued.
He noted that the developmental strides recorded so far boost public confidence in the APC. Progress at both state and national levels strengthens the party's brand, Gwamna said.
Unity among party members is crucial for success, he stressed. Discipline, focus, and mutual respect will determine whether APC wins in 2027.
Gwamna called on all supporters to remain committed to the cause. Collective effort remains essential for victory in Gombe State, he concluded.
