The Islamic Movement in Nigeria has condemned President Bola Tinubu's handling of the nation's security crisis. The group described the situation as deeply alarming.
Banditry, kidnapping and mass killings have become widespread across Nigeria. Children and women are increasingly falling victim to these attacks, IMN stated.
Sheikh Muhammad Auwal Gangare delivered the group's position on Friday in Jos, Plateau State. He spoke during a press briefing marking the global Ashura commemoration.
IMN also criticized what it called poor governance and mismanagement by the current administration. The rising cost of living remains the biggest burden on ordinary Nigerians, the group said.
"Schools have turned into processing centers for terrorism and ransom," Gangare told reporters. He referenced recent mass abductions in Oyo State involving pupils and teachers.
The group highlighted kidnappings in the North-West and North-East regions as well. Entire communities now live under the shadow of terror, according to IMN's assessment.
Ashura, he noted, represents far more than historical memory from Iraq's past. It embodies a living call for human dignity and complete societal reform.
IMN demanded immediate action from Tinubu's government and state authorities nationwide. Every available resource must be deployed to rescue abducted children and teachers, the group insisted.
"We must see total reform of our decaying institutions," Gangare stressed. Justice must be restored, he added, and corrupt leaders who steal public funds must be held accountable.
The group called for comprehensive action on the economic crisis facing Nigerians. Only drastic change can improve the lives of struggling citizens, IMN believes.
Rescue operations remain urgent in Oyo, Zamfara, Borno and other affected states. Time is running out for those still held in terrorist camps, the movement warned.
