Investors gain N344 billion as Nigerian stock market surges higher

Nigeria's stock market extended its winning streak Friday as investors pocketed N344 billion in fresh gains. Data from Nigerian Exchange Limited showed market capitalization jumped 0.22 percent over the session.

Opening at N159.733 trillion, the market closed higher at N160.077 trillion by day's end. All-Share Index climbed 536.98 points to reach 249,712.37 from Thursday's 249,175.39.

Year-to-date returns now stand at 60.47 percent. Market breadth remained positive with 30 gainers outpacing 27 losers.

Aluminum Extrusion Industry and Daar Communications led gains, each rising 10 percent. Aluminum Extrusion closed at N9.90 per share while Daar Communications settled at N2.09.

RT Briscoe surged 9.93 percent to N14.06. Learn Africa jumped 9.79 percent, finishing at N12.90 per share.

Red Star Express gained 9.56 percent to close at N34.95. On the losing end, Trans-Nationwide Express tumbled 9.92 percent to N5.72.

Livestock Feeds fell 9.64 percent, settling at N8.90 per share. The Initiates dropped 8.65 percent to end at N33.80.

Ellah Lakes dipped 8.64 percent, closing at N10.05. Neimeth Pharmaceuticals declined 6.36 percent to N10.30 per share.

Trading activity slowed considerably during the session. Total volume traded fell 32.76 percent to 711.86 million shares valued at N29.08 billion across 62,386 transactions.

Fidelity Bank dominated the activity charts by both measures. It accounted for 198.08 million shares worth N4.59 billion in trades.

Fidelity's trading represented 27.83 percent of total volume and 15.80 percent of total value. Thursday had seen investors gain N73 billion before Wednesday's steep N1.62 trillion loss.
