Insecurity: GOC seeks more synergy among security agencies

Maj.-Gen. Godwin Mutkut, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division Nigerian Army Sokoto, has solicited for more synergy among security agencies in the ongoing security operations in the Northwest.

Makut made the call at the opening of training for middle cadre military officers in the division and other security agencies, on Tuesday in Sokoto.

The five-day training is on ”Improving the Skills and Techniques of Middle Level Cadre Officers in Joint Operations Planning Process.”

The GOC said the training would enhance the working relationship between the military and other agencies working to combat security challenges bedevilling the region.

He said that the training was aimed at improving the skills and efficiency of the middle cadre officers during operations.

The GOC said this was important in order to clinically tackle the divers security challenges in the region and across the country.

”The essence of inviting sister security agencies is to bridge the gaps and promote more understandings to facilitate harmonious working relationship,” he added.

Mutkut told the participants to take interest in the lectures, and utilise the knowledge to enhance security in the region.

He said it was in line with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya to have a “professional Nigerian Army ready to accomplish assigned missions within a joint environment in defence of Nigeria”.

According to the GOC, the exercise is packaged to enable the sharing of operational experiences among the participants to enhance their professional competence.

“This will address the prevailing security challenges in Nigeria, as well as strengthen inter agencies’ cooperation and synergy,” he said.

Matkut tasked the participants to also provide solutions to challenges observed during operations.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that beside military personnel, other participants were from the Department of State Security, Correctional Service, Immigration, Civil Defence, FRSC and the Police.
