President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has raised concerns over the escalating insecurity across Nigeria, warning that terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes pose a serious threat to the nation's democratic achievements and national stability.

Akpabio issued the warning on Tuesday during an inter-denominational church service held to commemorate the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, where he called for greater cooperation between citizens and security agencies in tackling the country's security challenges.

The Senate President lamented the continued attacks on communities across the country, noting that many Nigerians, including farmers, travellers and residents of rural areas, live in fear due to the activities of criminal elements.

He described the abduction of innocent citizens, particularly children, as a national tragedy that has shaken the country's conscience, while assuring that the government remains committed to securing the release of those still in captivity.

"The government remains steadfast in its determination to secure the freedom of those in captivity, defeat the forces of terror and criminality, and restore peace to our communities," Akpabio stated.

He stressed that defeating insecurity requires a collective national effort, urging Nigerians to actively support security agencies through vigilance and timely intelligence sharing.

According to him, "The struggle against terrorism, kidnapping and violent criminality requires the vigilance, cooperation and moral resolve of all Nigerians."

Akpabio further emphasized that national security is a shared responsibility, calling on citizens to remain alert and work closely with law enforcement agencies to safeguard lives, protect communities and preserve Nigeria's democratic progress.
