INEC Commences Verification of Political Parties’ Status for 2024 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recently initiated the process of verifying the status of political parties in Nigeria.

This crucial step is part of the preparations for the upcoming 2024 general elections, as the commission aims to ensure that all political parties comply with the necessary requirements and regulations.

The verification exercise, which is being conducted at the national headquarters of each political party, is a thorough process that involves the examination of party documents, records, and structures.

This is to ensure that all parties are in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act.

During the verification process, the commission will also assess the compliance of political parties with the requirements for internal democracy, as well as their adherence to the code of conduct for political parties.

This is to ensure that the parties are functioning in a manner that promotes transparency, accountability, and fairness.

The INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has emphasized the importance of this exercise, stating that it is essential for maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.

He also urged all political parties to cooperate with the commission and provide the necessary documents and information to facilitate a smooth and efficient verification process.

As the verification exercise continues, the commission is expected to release a list of political parties that have been cleared to participate in the 2024 general elections.

This will provide clarity to the public and allow the parties to focus on their campaigns and preparations for the elections.
