England captain Harry Kane has confirmed he played golf with U.S. President Donald Trump roughly 18 months ago in Palm Beach, Florida, calling it "a pretty surreal experience." Kane accepted Trump's invitation to the course and described the encounter as unforgettable.
"When the president invites you somewhere, you go," Kane told reporters ahead of England's quarter-final clash against Norway. He reflected on his own performance with characteristic modesty, saying he "played alright to be honest."
The Bayern Munich striker was full of praise for Trump's golfing ability. "His golf is pretty good, to be honest with you," Kane said.
"I hope I can play golf as good as him when I'm his age, that's for sure."
Kane expressed gratitude for the opportunity, describing it as "a unique experience" he felt privileged to have received. He also emphasised how memorable simply meeting Trump had been.
Trump first disclosed their golfing outing earlier this week while speaking to journalists. The U.S. president made his remarks after Kane inspired England to a 3-2 victory over Mexico in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16.
"I think Kane is a great player," Trump said. "I played golf with him and I like him a lot.
He's a good golfer too. He's really great."
Kane has so far scored six goals and provided one assist in the tournament. His performances have been central to England's progress in the competition.
