By Akpos Oghenetega,

The Delta State Muslim Council has dragged President Muhammadu Buhari to court over the appointment of Sadiq Musa as Commissioner to represent Delta State in the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCOM).

The Council in a writ of surmon No. FHC/WR/C5/1/2020 filed at the Federal High Court Warri, supported by thirty two (32) paragraphs affidavits, they are challenging the appointment arguing that Sadiq Musa whom they say is not a Deltan, therefore, “he cannot represent them.”

The affidavit which was deposited to by Alhaji Ibrahim Miphoro, also prays the court to nullify the nomination of Musa Sadiq and confirmed their nominee, adding that to do otherwise will amount to injustice to Delta state.

They contended that the nomination was a violation of their fundamental rights of religion for someone not known to them to represent them.

They argued that there are qualified Muslim indigenes of Delta State adding that of the thirty six states of the Federation, it is only in Delta State none-indigenes represent the indigenes.

In the affidavit they maintain that since Delta State was created 1991, Muslims in the state have not known peace as some none-indigene Muslims residence in Delta State have continually engaged them in power and leadership tussle stressing that the opportunities meant for Muslims of Delta State are being highjacked by them thereby generating undue tension.

The statement of claim stated that crisis between Muslims of the State and the non indigene Muslims is unabated which resulted in social-schism, de die in dem (from day to day).

Arguing further, the Muslim leader contended that allowing Sadiq Musa to represent Delta State will amount to injustice as there are qualified Muslims of the state capable of such appointment

They pointed out that from the blue, Sadiq Onasanyene Musa an indigene of Edo State was nominated to represent them in the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria by the 1st defendant as against the overwhelming interest and wishes of the indigenous Muslims of Delta.
