Govs To Seek Partnerships For National Development November 15

The president of Global Growth and Opportunities at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Rodger Voorhies, will have a meeting with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) on November 15, 2023.

The meeting will be held at the NGF Secretariat in Abuja.

The NGF Director General, Asishana Bayo Okauru, said the meeting with Voorhies would create new opportunities for Nigerian states to work with the foundation on programmes related to agriculture, poverty alleviation, digital financial services, education, nutrition, water, sanitation, and hygiene.

Voorhies is in charge of over $700 million in annual grantmaking by the foundation in areas such as agricultural development, financial services for the poor, global education, nutrition and water, sanitation, and hygiene.

The NGF Chairman and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has asked all 36 Nigerian state governors to join the meeting.

The NGF said the meeting would be a chance to explore potential partnerships to improve agricultural productivity, expand access to digital financial services, enhance childhood literacy and numeracy, and increase access to clean water and sanitation, especially in rural communities.

The meeting shows the NGF’s commitment to using global partnerships and resources to advance development across Nigerian states.
