Gov Aiyedatiwa Pays Condolence Visit To Akeredolu’s Family

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who was sworn in recently, has visited the family of his late predecessor Rotimi Akeredolu in Ibadan, Oyo State, to express his sympathy.

Akeredolu passed away on Wednesday after a long illness, and Aiyedatiwa, his deputy, assumed the leadership role on the same day. Aiyedatiwa vowed to preserve Akeredolu’s legacies.

Aiyedatiwa, accompanied by some members of the State Executive Council and Ondo State House of Assembly members, went to console the Akeredolu family over the tragic event, shortly after his principal’s death.

“We are here to do this because he was our leader, a brave one at that, one who ruled Ondo State for almost seven years, with great strength and with many legacies he left behind,” the governor said at the Jericho home of Akeredolu.

Aiyedatiwa, while offering his condolences to the family over the loss, pledged to follow Akeredolu’s principles and also continue “with the legacies that he left behind. Aiyedatiwa signed the condolence book during the visit to Akeredolu’s family.

The Akeredolu family expressed their gratitude to the delegation for the visit, and prayers were offered for the bereaved people, with Aiyedatiwa leading others to sign the condolence book.

The governor’s visit occurred amid a flood of condolence messages that have been coming in since Akeredolu’s death. President Bola Tinubu, governors, lawmakers, and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), among others, were among the first to send their condolences.

Tinubu said that the late governor was his friend and brother, with whom he waged many battles for the sake of the country’s democracy.

“Rotimi did his part well and left us too soon. We will never find anyone like him again. Let me tell the people of Ondo State that I share your sorrow. We will honour Rotimi’s memory and make sure his legacy of service is never erased,” Tinubu said while sympathising with the family and people of the state over Akeredolu’s death.

“Governor Akeredolu was not just a friend and colleague; the departed leader was a brother and a soulmate.”
