Germany started the 2024 European Championship with a convincing 5-1 victory over Scotland in the opening match of the tournament.

The hosts were in control from the kick off, leading 3-0 by half time.

Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, and Kai Havertz (from a penalty) all scored in the first half to give Germany a comfortable lead.

Scotland's Ryan Porteous was sent off before the break for a dangerous tackle on Ilkay Gundogan inside the area.

In the second half, Germany's dominance continued as substitute Niclas Fullkrug extended their lead.

Although Scotland pulled one back through an own goal from Antonio Rudiger, Germany's Emre Can sealed the victory with a curling effort into the bottom corner.

Germany's strong performance in the opening match sets the tone for their campaign in the Euro 2024 tournament.
