Garba Shehu claims that Buhari rescued Nigeria from corruption

Garba Shehu, the spokesman of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has defended his boss’s record on fighting corruption in Nigeria. He said that Buhari’s administration saved Nigeria from corrupt undertones planted to expose the nation’s economy to collapse.

Shehu was reacting to the allegations made by a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke, who accused Buhari of being selective and vindictive in his anti-graft war. Adoke also claimed that Buhari’s government was responsible for the worsening corruption perception index in Nigeria.

He dismissed Adoke’s claims as baseless and senseless, saying that Buhari had taken decisive actions against corruption in various sectors of the economy. He cited the implementation of the Treasury Single Account, the Biometric Verification Number, and the Whistleblowing Policy as some of the measures that Buhari introduced to curb corruption and increase transparency.

Shehu also said that Buhari had shown zero tolerance for corruption and had recovered billions of naira looted by previous administrations. He added that Buhari had also empowered the anti-corruption agencies, such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), to prosecute corrupt officials without fear or favour.
