Future Generations Will Bear the Burden of Africa’s Current Debt – Obasanjo

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has issued a stark warning about the long-term consequences of Africa’s current debt.

In a recent statement, he said that future generations will have to bear the brunt of the continent’s financial burden.

Obasanjo made these comments while addressing the 2023 awardees of the Future Africa Leaders Foundation, an initiative of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.

He emphasized that the mismanagement of debt relief by previous administrations has forced Nigeria into a debt trap that will be difficult to escape.

The former President highlighted the importance of leadership in addressing the continent’s challenges.

He stated that leadership is the number one problem facing Africa and that the coming generations will have no choice but to pay the current debt being incurred by different countries in the continent.

Obasanjo also stressed the need for leaders to set good examples, be bold and courageous when making decisions, and learn from their mistakes.

He commended Pastor Oyakhilome for his efforts in building leaders and said that the nation needs more people like him to address the leadership crisis facing the continent.
