Foundation spends N90m on 46 boreholes in Nasarawa State

The Chuga and Friends Foundation has spent over N90 million on the drilling of 46 motorised boreholes across communities in Nasarawa State, the Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Dr Samson Chuga, has said.

Chuka said while briefing newsmen on the activities of the foundation in Akwanga on Friday, that the boreholes were provided between 2017 and 2023.

He explained that that the foundation was principally focused on providing potable water to communities in the state.

“From 2017 to date, we have executed 46 boreholes across Nasarawa State in which we spent a total of N90 million to provide water to communities among other logistics.

“We have  provided two boreholes in Obi LGA, about seven in Nassarawa Eggon, 14 in Akwanga and so many places,’’ the official said.

Chuga, who is also the Minister, United English Baptist Church Akwanga, added that the foundation had provided educational facilities to some rural communities.

“Our aim and objective also include propagation of the gospel of Jesus Christ through evangelism, organising seminars, workshops on radio, television and other media of communication.

“Also, preach peace and promote peaceful coexistence in our society; provide medical assistance to rural communities by providing free drugs and treatment, as well as establishment of health centres, among others,’’ he said.

Chuga also said that the foundation had from March 2023, received about 28 requests from communities seeking for water in the state.

“We are taking measures to go for feasibility study to know the communities that we will provide the boreholes to out of the 28 applications.

“Possibly we will take 18 or 20 communities that the foundation will give boreholes, as not every community will get.’’

On empowerment, Chuga said that the foundation had disbursed about N9 million to rural women to enable them become self-reliant and contribute positively to the development of the country.

He assured that the organisation would continue to provide water and other empowerment interventions to enhance the livelihood of the beneficiaries.
