The office of Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has announced the launch of a large-scale medical outreach to combat the rising threat of diabetes in the region.

The program which is in partnership with the National Health Fellows, the Delta Central Diabetes Sensitisation and Testing Medical Outreach will run from October 1st to 18th, 2025, covering all eight Local Government Areas in the district. The programme will provide free diabetes testing, sensitisation, and community education.

“Diabetes remains one of the fastest-growing health challenges in Nigeria, with many cases going undetected until complications such as kidney failure, blindness, stroke, or even death arise,” the statement read. “Unfortunately, access to routine testing and preventive care remains limited for many residents in Delta Central.”

Themed “Come Check Your Sugar Level O!”, the outreach is designed to empower residents with knowledge, encourage prevention and lifestyle modification, and promote early detection as a way of reducing the burden of diabetes.

The outreach will kick off at Urban PHC in Sapele on October 1, before moving to Ethiope West, Ethiope East, Uvwie, Okpe, Udu, Ughelli North, and Ughelli South, with all events scheduled to commence at 9:00 a.m.

According to the organisers, “This initiative not only reflects Senator Ede Dafinone’s commitment to quality healthcare but also strengthens grassroots health systems through collaboration with the National Health Fellows. By promoting awareness, encouraging early testing, and linking residents with continuous support, the outreach contributes to reducing preventable deaths and advancing public health in Delta Central.”
