FG to boost economy, jobs with MSME interventions in 17 states, FCT

The Federal Government has announced its plan to execute various interventions for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), targeting 1.3 million beneficiaries. The interventions are aimed at improving the economy and creating more jobs, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The MSME and Job Creation Unit of the Office of the Vice President, which is coordinating the interventions, said they are part of the efforts to ensure the realisation of the President Bola Tinubu administration’s commitment to job creation and economic diversification, with the MSMEs playing critical roles.

According to a statement from the spokesperson of the Office of the Vice President, Olusola Abiola, on Tuesday, the interventions include shared centres for MSMEs, providing four markets with 300 kVA solar panels and mini-grids to provide eight hours of electricity a day to six fashion hubs and two furniture clusters. Other interventions are for car painting, drying hubs, and cold rooms for seafood storage, among others.

The states set to benefit from the interventions include Abia, Rivers, Jigawa, Benue, Borno, Lagos, Ekiti, Niger, Sokoto, Enugu, Gombe, Akwa Ibom, Yobe, Ondo, Osun, Bayelsa, Imo, and the FCT.
