The federal government has rejected claims spreading on social media that Federal Government Girls' College, Monguno, in Borno State, faced an attack, labelling the allegations as untrue and potentially dangerous to public calm.
Folasade Boriowo, the Federal Ministry of Education's director of press and public relations, released a statement on Monday denying the attack allegations. She stressed that students, staff, and school buildings remain fully protected.
The ministry confirmed that classes, boarding operations, and all school activities continue normally in a secure setting. "The ministry states unequivocally that there was no attack on Federal Government Girls' College, Monguno," the statement read.
Maruf Tunji, the education minister, reaffirmed that protecting learners in all Federal Government Colleges remains a key government priority. He noted the Monguno school operates under strong security measures.
Tunji clarified that no college student participated in the incident wrongly attributed to the school online. According to him, the affected individuals were remedial students outside the college, and the Borno State Government is addressing their welfare.
The ministry urged the public to confirm reports through official channels before sharing them. It warned that spreading unverified information damages public trust and disrupts efforts to create safe learning spaces nationwide.
The ministry appealed to parents and guardians to stay composed. They assured families that the school faces no security dangers.
The education office pledged to keep working with security agencies, state governments, and school leaders to maintain safety at all Federal Government Colleges across the country. It committed to sharing accurate updates through official channels only.
