FG commissions Ezealakpaka Water Scheme in Imo

The Minister of Water Resources, Alhaji Suleiman Adamu,, on Friday commissioned the 500,000 litres per-day Ezealakpaka Water supply scheme in Ehime Mbano, Imo State.

The scheme would serve no fewer than 10,000 people of the Community and its environs.

Adamu in a statement said it was part of Federal Government’s commitment to delivering dividends of democracy to Nigerians, and in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s promise to lift 100 million out of poverty in ten years.

The multiple projects were executed under the Anambra-Imo River Basin Development Authority, (AIRBDA).

The minister said the contract for the Water Scheme was executed within the contract duration by Messrs Roudo (Nig) Limited, with major elements of work to include; the drilling of six boreholes and construction of 500 cubic meters water storage tanks.

According to him, the quality of the treated water from the scheme had been subjected to laboratory tests and found to meet national and international standards of drinking water.

He noted that to ensure sustained management and maintenance of the water scheme, some of the community members had been trained on various aspects of running the scheme by the contractor, as part of his contract obligations.

The Minister said Federal Government’s Water Supply intervention in Imo State was not limited to the Ezealakpaka Water Supply Project alone, saying other intervention projects included the Inyinshi Water Supply Project and others in the different Local Government Areas.

He enjoined Imo State Government to own the projects and ensure that the projects were sustainably operated and maintained by relevant agencies for the facilities to stand the test of time.

The Minister also commissioned other projects executed by the river basin, namely; the Water Factory, Integrated Palm Oil Mill, Integrated Songhai farm, which has different sections as the Vegetables, Fishery, poultry, livestock ranch.

“Other projects commissioned are the newly renovated Police Station, newly constructed training centre and a Multi- Purpose Hall”.

Imo Gov. Hope Uzodinma, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his administration’s numerous infrastructure presence in Imo State.

He called on the minister to expand the water projects to other neighbouring communities to also feel Federal Government presence.

Earlier, the Managing Director of the River Basin Authority, Mr Gerald Osuagwu, stated that all the projects commissioned by the Minister were pro-people and initiated purposely to positively impact the lives of citizens.

Osuagwu reiterated that the projects would create wealth, provide jobs for the teaming youths, and generate internal revenue for the River Basin Authority.
